What to Expect at Your First Aesthetic Consultation
Published April 2026 | 6 min read
If you've been thinking about trying an aesthetic treatment but you're nervous about the consultation, I want to put your mind at ease. A consultation isn't a sales pitch. It's a conversation where we figure out what you want, what will work for your face, and how to make sure you feel confident before we do anything.
Here's what actually happens when I arrive at your home for your first consultation.
Before I Arrive
You don't need to do anything special to prepare. Just be in a comfortable space where we can talk without rushing. Some people tidy up a bit, others don't. I'm here to focus on you, not your living room. Wear whatever makes you feel relaxed.
I usually arrive right on time. I'll have my kit with me, but we won't jump into treatment straight away. That comes later, only if you decide you want to go ahead.
The First Thing We Do
We sit down and talk. I'll ask you what brought you here, what you're thinking about, and what you'd like to enhance. This is the most important part. I'm listening to understand your goals, your concerns, and what would make you feel like the best version of yourself.
I'll ask questions like, "What do you see when you look in the mirror?" or "If you could change one thing about your face, what would it be?" These might feel personal, but they help me understand you. Your answers matter.
The Assessment
Next, I look at your face properly. I'll examine your features, your proportions, your skin quality, and how light falls on your face. I'm thinking about what would work well with your natural features and what would look balanced and honest. Everyone's different, and what works for someone else won't necessarily work for you.
I might show you how different treatments could work. I might say, "If we add a bit of filler here, it will lift this area," or "That would take away the tired look you mentioned." I use my hands to show you, or sometimes I'll point to my own face as an example.
This is when I ask about your history too. Any allergies, any previous treatments, any skin conditions I need to know about. I need to make sure you're a good candidate and that we're choosing the right product for you.
The Honest Recommendation
Based on everything we've talked about, I'll tell you what I think would work best. Sometimes that means I'll recommend something different from what you initially thought. I'm not just telling you what you want to hear. I'm telling you what I actually think will give you the best result.
If you ask for something that wouldn't suit your face, I'll say so. For example, if you want loads of filler in your lips and your lips are already full, I'll tell you it won't look natural. That's my job. You're paying for my expertise, and part of that is being honest when something isn't quite right for you.
There's No Pressure
If you want to think about it, that's fine. If you're not sure, that's fine too. Some people book a treatment for their next visit after thinking things over. Some people decide to start small and build up. Some people realize it's not for them, and that's okay. I'd rather you leave and come back ready than feel pressured into something you're not sure about.
Consultations are free, with no obligation to book a treatment. You're not paying for advice you might not act on, and there's no pressure either way. It's just a chance to make sure you're making the right choice for you.
If You Want to Go Ahead
If you decide you want to have the treatment done the same day, great. I'll explain what will happen, how it might feel, and what to expect afterward. I'll show you the product I'm using. I'll answer any last-minute questions. Then we'll do it, and I'll give you detailed aftercare advice before I leave.
But there's no expectation that you'll decide straight away. Many people need a bit of time to think things through, and that's completely normal.
Aftercare Information
Whether you have treatment or not, I always give you a full aftercare sheet. This tells you what to expect, how to look after your skin afterward, and when you might want to come back for a top-up or try something else.
I'm also here if you have questions after I've left. You can message me, and I'll get back to you. I want you to feel supported throughout your journey, not just during the appointment.
The Bottom Line
Your first consultation is about getting to know each other and figuring out if what I offer is right for you. It's a conversation between two people who both care about getting a good result. You should leave feeling informed, heard, and confident that you're making the right choice for you, whatever that is.
Does that make the idea of a consultation feel a bit less scary? I hope so. If you have any questions, I'm always happy to chat before you book.
