Lip Filler: Your Questions Answered

Published April 2026 | 8 min read

I get asked the same lip filler questions all the time, and I'm always happy to answer them properly. These are the ones that come up in almost every consultation, and I want to give you real, honest answers so you can make an informed decision.

Does lip filler hurt?

Most people describe it as pressure rather than actual pain. Before we start, I apply a numbing cream to your lips, and the filler itself contains lidocaine, which is a local anaesthetic. So you get numbed twice over.

What you'll feel is more of a pushing sensation as the filler goes in. Some people say it feels slightly uncomfortable, like a pinch. Others barely feel it at all. It's brief too. The whole thing takes maybe a few minutes. If you're particularly anxious about pain, let me know in our consultation and we can discuss options to make you more comfortable.

How long does lip filler last?

You're looking at about 6 to 9 months, though this varies from person to person. Your body will gradually break down the hyaluronic acid in the filler, and the time it takes depends on a few things. Some people metabolise it faster than others. If you're active or use your lips a lot (which everyone does), it might not last quite as long. The type of filler I use also plays a role.

Most of my clients come back around the 6-month mark if they want to maintain their results, but some stretch it to 9 months. You'll notice your lips gradually return to normal rather than changing overnight. That's the nice thing about fillers. You can't really overdo it.

Will my lips look natural?

Yes, if that's what you want. I focus on enhancing what you already have rather than creating something completely different. I won't give you obvious, over-filled lips that look like they've had work done. That's not my style.

When we talk in your consultation, we'll discuss what natural means to you. Some people want a really subtle boost. Others want more noticeable fullness but still want it to look like their lips. Once I understand your goals, I'll recommend what I think will work best for your face.

The key is proportion. Your lips need to balance with your other features. If I add too much, it won't look right. If I add too little, you might not see the benefit. We get it right in the consultation conversation.

Can I choose how much filler I get?

Absolutely. I offer different amounts depending on what you're hoping to achieve. You might start with 0.5ml if you just want a subtle enhancement. 1ml gives a more noticeable result. You could even do 1.5ml or 2ml if you're after a more dramatic change, though I'd always recommend starting conservative and building up if you want more.

The beauty of starting smaller is you can see how you feel after a few weeks, and if you want more, we can do a top-up appointment. There's no pressure to use the maximum amount. It's your lips, and you should feel completely comfortable with the result.

What's the aftercare like?

Pretty straightforward. For the first 24 hours, try to keep your lips out of direct sun if you can. Avoid really hot environments like saunas or hot yoga for a couple of days, as heat can increase swelling.

Some swelling and tenderness is completely normal and usually peaks around 24-48 hours. After that, it settles down. You might also get a tiny bit of bruising, but this usually fades within a week or so.

Try not to sleep on your face the first night. It's not a hard rule, but it helps reduce swelling. I'll give you a full aftercare sheet with everything you need to know before I leave. Don't hesitate to message me if you have any questions or concerns afterward.

How much does it cost?

Lip filler starts from £120 for 0.5ml during our launch offer (regular price £150). A full 1ml treatment is £180 during launch (regular price £225). These prices reflect the quality of the product and the time I spend making sure you get the right result.

If you're unsure whether to book a treatment straight away, you can book a free consultation first, with no obligation to go ahead. It's a chance to chat things through with me, and you'll leave knowing exactly what to expect.

Can I get lip filler if I've had it before?

Yes, many of my clients are returning customers who love their results and want to maintain them. If you've had filler before, we'll talk about what you had done, how you felt about it, and what you want this time. Sometimes people want to try a different approach or adjust things slightly based on how they felt about their previous experience.

Will people know I've had it done?

Not if you don't want them to. I aim for results that look enhanced but not obvious. Your family and friends might just say you look well, refreshed, or that you've got a nice lip colour on. Most people won't clock that you've had a treatment unless you tell them.

What if I hate it?

First, we'd chat about what you're not happy with. But here's the thing about hyaluronic acid fillers. If you really hate the result, we can inject something called hyaluronidase, which breaks down the filler. You won't be stuck with it forever. That said, I'm confident in my work and my recommendations, and my clients usually love their results. We get it right in the consultation.

The Bottom Line

Lip filler is a safe, reversible treatment that can enhance your lips in a way that feels natural to you. There's no pain, it lasts several months, and you're in control of how much you have done. The most important thing is the consultation. That's where we make sure we're both on the same page about what you want and what will work for your face.
